Kids in Preschool

Preschool

If your toddler or preschooler is not talking yet or showing signs of a delay in language, let us know. We can conduct an assessment to let you know if your child is on the right track or needs some support. We know how many words or how complex a child's language should be at every stage. We also know that early intervention is important and are here to help. We provide assessments, referrals and therapy for preschool kids.

What to expect during your visit:

Preschool assessments help children who are late talkers, not talking enough, not speaking clearly, or who might have developmental concerns like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In all cases, the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will conduct a comprehensive assessment that evaluates social communication (eye contact, turn taking, greetings), play skills, behaviour and attention, understanding of language, verbal expression, speech articulation, and fluency. This will all be done through asking the parents questions, observing the child during play, or directly interacting with the child. The SLP will write the analysis in a report to identify areas that are age-appropriate and areas that are delayed.

Therapy sessions are generally once a week, working directly with the child and also teaching the parents strategies to use at home to help the child in the area(s) in which they are delayed.
